Abstract

The goal of this work is to shed light on possible associations between the phenomenological study of the field of sexuality and psychopharmacology, based on the complaint of loss of libido among users of antidepressants. Phenomenology is a method that aims to describe the phenomenon and, through it, reveal how the aprioristic categories of experience are structured for their appearance. Through Phenomenology, it is possible to comprehend the use of psychotropic drugs in an alternative way. Beyond considering that antidepressants act chemically in the pathophysiology of depression, it is pointed out how they can alter the fundamental conditions of the structure of existence and its relations of proportionality. Sexuality, seen as an area of privileged access to being, allows the glimpse of existence but is not limited to it, presenting a set of particular meanings. In this sense, in addition to therapeutic and side effects, antidepressants can modify sexual experiences of a certain life-structure through their reproportioning.
