Psychotherapy, psychopathology and freedom

This text presents a discussion regarding the use of the concept of conditions of possibility, stemming from Phenomenological Psychopathology, beyond the understanding of the structure of consciousness, to contemplate psychotherapeutic intervention from a phenomenological perspective. To this end, the condition of freedom is discussed in relation to how the human being is approached in different forms of psychotherapy, highlighting the condition of negativity of freedom in an existential understanding. The text addresses the need to expand the dialogue of phenomenological psychotherapy with contemporary perspectives that are grounded in the same conceptual horizon, such as Phenomenological Psychopathology itself and the externalist position of consciousness present in the enactivist stance on cognition. Finally, the discussion on clinical intervention is carried out based on a clinical vignette of a person with a borderline structure. It is understood that this text does not exhaust the need to contemplate clinical intervention that considers the conditions of possibility in a psychotherapeutic perspective, but rather encourages further production on this topic.
