An understanding based on Carl Rogers of psychological trauma

This work, of an essayistic and theoretical nature, aims to understand the traumatic psychological experience within Carl Rogers’ framework. It is argued that, although Rogers' clinic didn't directly address the phenomenon of trauma, this does not imply that his approach does not offer substrates for the theoretical development of the topic. Initially, a general notion of psychological trauma is presented from the biomedical psychopathology perspective. Subsequently, this perspective is articulated with some post-Rogerian humanist-experiential studies. Finally, the phenomena involved in the traumatic process, described in the two previous sections, are reinterpreted within an explanatory model based on Rogers' personality theory. The work concludes with the expectation that this explanatory model will serve as a basis for empirical and clinical research to understand and intervene in trauma from a person-centered perspective.
