Abstract

Research on the effectiveness of psychotherapies has pointed to the importance of the collaborative construction of clinical case formulation instruments in different approaches. Thus, this article aimed to present a clinical case formulation model, adapted from Tracy Eells, for existential psychotherapies. The instrument was adapted from a supervision experience with psychotherapists from a School of continuing training in phenomenological-existential psychology. Thus, this study utilized a descriptive exploratory method, in which we sought to present the elements present in adapting the clinical case formulation model. It describes how its elements were articulated based on the dialogue between psychotherapy research and existential psychotherapies. The results indicate that the clinical case formulation model can be used and can contribute significantly to the construction of comprehensive hypotheses and the planning of the psychotherapeutic process according to the uniqueness of the patients and assist in research into the effectiveness of existential psychotherapeutic approaches. However, even though professionals in the field use the instrument, some gaps indicate the need to present it to the scientific community for improvement.
